As your constituent, I am writing with deep concern about the Justice Department’s recent settlement with President Trump, specifically the creation of the $1.776 billion "Anti-Weaponization Fund."
Regardless of one’s views on the President, this arrangement sets a dangerous precedent that should alarm every fiscal conservative. A sitting president has used his administration to settle a personal lawsuit against his own government, creating a multi-billion dollar fund he largely controls.
I urge you to support or initiate the following:
Immediate Oversight Hearings: Congress must investigate how the DOJ and Treasury intend to disburse this fund. Who decides what constitutes "weaponization"? How do we prevent this from becoming a slush fund for political allies, including those convicted for January 6th?
Block the Fund Transfer: The law gives Congress the power of the purse. You should move to amend appropriations or pass a measure specifically prohibiting the transfer of these $1.78 billion in taxpayer dollars into this unvetted account.
Investigate the Settlement Terms: Specifically, examine the addendum that "forever bars" the IRS from auditing the President’s past tax returns. No American, especially the chief executive, should be above routine tax enforcement.
This is not about partisan politics; it is about preventing the executive branch from paying itself with public money to escape legal accountability.
Thank you for your service and your attention to this urgent matter.
