I am a constituent urging you not to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) or ICE in the upcoming continuing resolution or appropriations bills unless funds are clawed back and redirected to urgent priorities such as health care subsidies.
The fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent on January 7, 2026 highlights the dangers of unchecked federal enforcement and the urgent need for oversight. Funding DHS without conditions sends the wrong message and endangers communities nationwide.
Congress has the power of the purse and can:
Withhold or rescind DHS/ICE funding,
Attach riders requiring transparency and independent investigation of enforcement actions, and
Redirect unspent or future DHS funds toward essential services like health care.
I urge you to take a principled stand by opposing any DHS funding until meaningful reforms and funding reallocations are enacted. Residents deserve a federal budget that prioritizes human safety, civil rights, and essential services over militarized enforcement.
Please respond with your position and the steps you will take on this urgent matter.
