It is obvious that Kilmar Albrego García was wrongfully deported and should be returned from El Salvador. What is less spoken of is what should happen with all of the other deportees the US sent to CECOT prison. Under US law, they were all entitled to hearings before deportation. Previous administrations were able to comply with the law while also deporting more immigrants than the Trump administration has managed despite Trump proceeding so carelessly. It is important to follow the law. From news reports and investigations so far, it seems that only 3 of these deportees were actual violent criminals. If we are deporting people, they generally are sent back to their home country where they walk free, able to restart their lives. If they are criminals they should be tried and punished according to the law and then deported after serving their sentences. Flying people to an El Salvadoran prison, one of the worst in the world, where there is no plan for their release, ever, at a cost of $6million with no due process is an egregious human rights violation. This is wrong! These people were detained into US custody and need to be treated humanely and fairly. If deportable by law they should be flown to their home countries and set free. If their home country doesn’t accept US flights then another solution needs to be found but a lifetime in CECOT is not the answer. ALL the prisoners should be brought back, the criminals should be charged and tried, all should have their day in court and no one should ever be sent to CECOT under any circumstances.
