Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to support H.R. 2352, the Abolish Super PACs Act is it moves through committee and eventually to a vote eon the House Floor. As we’ve all seen, the integrity of our democratic process is under threat from the unchecked influence of wealthy individuals and special interests through super PACs. These entities allow unlimited contributions, which is frankly ridiculous, essentially enabling whole campaigns to be ‘bought’ by the ultra wealthy and to drown out the voices of ordinary voters. It’s gone on since 2013, and this erodes public trust in government and perpetuates a system where policies are shaped by the highest bidders rather than the people's interests. The Abolish Super PACS Act (H.R. 2352) aims to restore fairness and accountability by establishing a $5,000 annual cap on contributions to super PACs. This reasonable limit would curtail the unfair influence of billionaires and corporations, ensuring that all Americans have an equal say in the democratic process, regardless of their wealth. Furthermore, the legislation aligns with Supreme Court precedents upholding contribution limits as a legitimate means to prevent corruption and the appearance of corruption in politics. It’s a crucial step towards empowering the people and reclaiming our democracy from the grip of moneyed interests like Elon Musk, Peter Thiel and the Koch Family. I urge you to support the Abolish Super PACs Act and take a stand against the corrosive effects of unchecked money in politics. Our democracy's health depends on it.
