Disappointed Votes on S.J.Res. 26 & 33
To: Sen. Kelly, Sen. Gallego
From: A verified voter in Phoenix, AZ
April 6
I write to you today with a heavy heart, deeply disappointed by your decision to vote against Senator Bernie Sanders' joint resolutions to block the sale of weapons to Israel. This was not merely a legislative vote—it was a moral test, one that history will remember as a defining moment. Unfortunately, it is a test that was failed.
The resolution was not about political expediency or the likelihood of its passage. It was about standing on the right side of history, about affirming that the United States will not be complicit in actions that result in the loss of innocent lives. By rejecting this resolution, you have sent a message that morality and humanity can be sidelined for political convenience. This is a dangerous precedent, one that erodes the very values we claim to uphold as a nation.
The Democratic Party continues to struggle against a Republican Party that, at the very least, is transparent about its priorities, however morally bankrupt they may be. When Democrats fail to act with courage and conviction, when they fail to champion the principles of justice and humanity, they alienate the very people who look to them for leadership. This is why the party loses ground—not because of policy differences, but because of a perceived lack of moral clarity.
Your votes were a missed opportunity to demonstrate that the Democratic Party can be a beacon of hope, a party that stands unwaveringly for what is right, even when it is difficult. I urge you to reflect on this decision and consider the legacy you wish to leave behind. History will judge us all, and it will not be kind to those who chose silence or complicity over action.
