I’m writing to urge an immediate investigation and to legislatively block the Trump administration's new State Department grant program — up to $5 million directed at European political actors — is foreign election interference, plain and simple.
My tax dollars are not to be spent funding hate groups. Period.
The funding criteria explicitly target groups aligned with a "shared political philosophy" and opposition to EU content regulations, which is a transparent attempt to bankroll nationalist movements like Germany's Nazi successors, the AfD.
Chancellor Merz said it clearly on July 15: financing political parties from abroad is illegal in Germany, and foreign governments are expected to follow that law.
This isn't democracy promotion. This is the very antithesis of helping democracies.
The program's own language prioritizes "national sovereignty" and "migration" framing that maps directly onto far-right talking points.
Dressing up partisan political funding as a defense of "Western civilizational heritage" doesn't change what it is.
Block this program, demand a full accounting of where these grants are going, and make clear that the U.S. government has no business picking winners in allied nations' elections.
Investigate, expose, and drag Rubio into Congress for questioning under oath.
Thank you.
