ICE detention is a humanitarian crisis

To: Sen. Padilla, Rep. Carbajal, Sen. Schiff

June 23

Immigrants in ICE custody are dying and suffering in horrible conditions across the country. Recent reports reveal: → A 68-year-old detainee died in transit between jails—underscoring the lack of medical care and oversight . → Adelanto, CA detention center is overcrowded, unsanitary, with detainees denied clean clothes and legal access . → Three detainees died in ICE custody in April alone—another deadly sign of systemic neglect . This is not border control. It’s a humanitarian crisis fueled by cruelty. Congress must: → Cut funding for mass deportations and ICE operations → Restore full oversight of detention conditions → Mandate urgent health and safety inspections → Halt these lethal, authoritarian raids now We cannot stand by while lives are being destroyed under the guise of enforcement.
