While no final decision has been made, the movement of significant military assets like the USS Gerald Ford carrier strike group into the U.S. Southern Command's area of responsibility is alarming. The justification for these potential actions seems to be tied to drug trafficking concerns. However, the use of military force against a sovereign nation is a drastic and potentially catastrophic step that could have far-reaching consequences for both the United States and the entire region. Over the past two months, U.S. military strikes against vessels allegedly smuggling drugs from South America have already resulted in at least 80 deaths. This escalation of force is troubling, and further military action could lead to a full-scale conflict. America has seen enough war. The human, economic, and diplomatic costs of another military engagement would be immense. Instead of considering military options, I implore you to advocate for diplomatic solutions and increased international cooperation to address drug trafficking concerns. As my representative, I ask that you speak out against any plans for military intervention in Venezuela. Please use your position to encourage a more measured approach that prioritizes diplomacy, regional stability, and the safety of both American personnel and Venezuelan civilians. The American people are weary of prolonged military engagements. We need our leaders to pursue peaceful solutions that address root causes rather than resorting to force.
