Oppose the Forest Service Relocation to Salt Lake City

To: Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted, Rep. Turner

From: A verified voter in Dayton, OH

April 4

Vote to block the Forest Service headquarters relocation to Salt Lake City. This move is a costly bureaucratic reshuffle that will gut the agency when we need it most. The timing couldn't be worse. The Mountain West is facing historically low snowpack, extreme heat, and a dangerous fire season. Forcing 260 federal employees to uproot their lives and relocate by summer 2027 will drive experienced staffers out the door, just like Trump's first-term BLM relocation did. We saw that disaster play out in real time, and the Biden administration had to reverse it after two years of damage. National forests belong to all Americans, not just Western states. Federal policy should be made in Washington, where Congress can provide oversight. This relocation will empower corporations and states to log, mine, and drill on public lands while reducing public access and threatening wildlife habitat, clean water, and air. The claim that this brings leadership closer to the land rings hollow when research facilities in 31 states are being shuttered and consolidated in Fort Collins, Colorado. Stop this move before it hollows out the Forest Service and creates chaos we can't afford.
