Abolish ICE and CBP — End the Kidnapping of Our Neighbors
Abolish ICE and CBP. Defund them entirely. The case of Olga Pérez — a 47-year-old Mayan Mam translator and mother of four U.S. citizen children, detained for seven months after a traffic stop on I-95 where she wasn't even driving — is exactly what these agencies do every single day. No criminal record. Nine postponed hearings. A judge's release order revoked by a detention official on a whim. This is not law enforcement. It is state-sponsored kidnapping.
Pérez must now leave the country she has called home for over 30 years before July 5, separated permanently from her children, because ICE decided she was worth $152-$165/ day to keep her caged. Her release only happened because a Greyhound employee lent her a phone, a stranger drove her home, and a community stepped in where the government failed. Taxpayers funded her detention. Billionaire-owned private prison contractors collected the check.
This is where our money goes. Not to public safety — Pérez posed zero threat to anyone — but to an apparatus that destroys families and enriches the worst actors in this system. I want you on record supporting full abolition and defunding of ICE and CBP. There is no reforming agencies whose core function is this.
