The actions taken by DOGE to forcibly seize control of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) and attempt to transfer its $500 million headquarters building to the General Services Administration at no cost are highly concerning and appear to be a blatant abuse of power. This disturbing move follows the unlawful termination of USIP's board members and staff, raising serious questions about DOGE's adherence to the rule of law and respect for independent institutions. Attempting to essentially gift a $500 million asset to itself through dubious legal maneuvers sets a dangerous precedent that undermines democratic principles and accountability. It is critical that these actions are thoroughly investigated and that those responsible are held accountable for their attempts to dismantle a Congressionally-funded, independent think tank dedicated to promoting peace. Such conduct erodes public trust in government and threatens the checks and balances that are fundamental to a healthy democracy. I urge you to take immediate action to prevent this unjustified asset transfer from proceeding and to reinstate the rightful leadership at USIP. Failing to address this issue will only enable further abuse and consolidation of power by DOGE, jeopardizing the integrity of our institutions.
