Protect Haitian Immigrants
To: Rep. Smucker
From: A constituent in Ephrata, PA
September 2
I am writing today to ask you to hold the DHS to account and stop the despicable treatment of immigrants, especially Haitian immigrants who were given Temporary Protected Status. Today thousands of Haitians who were careful to come here under legal protection offered to them by the US government are being shackled, ripped from their families, and threatened with deportation to an island that is terribly dangerous by any and all standards. The conditions which prompted the USA to offer protected status have not improved, but have gotten increasingly worse.
As an Anabaptist Christian whose own ancestors fled for their lives and found refuge in the Americas, I believe this mistreatment of immigrants is not only a deep betrayal of the founding principles of the United States, but also of the faith in Christ which you and I claim, Representative Smucker. Have you no shame?
Please act urgently to restore protected status and grant asylum to this vulnerable and valuable population.
