I am outraged by President Trump’s continued actions toward Russia and the dangerous implications for American national security and our allies. As Reuters reported on October 22, Trump has eased economic pressure on Russia while increasing pressure on Ukraine, prompting bipartisan concern in Congress. Members of both parties have called for stronger enforcement of sanctions against Russia. This is not who we are as Americans. Our country should stand for democracy, freedom, accountability, and the defense of our allies, not make concessions that risk emboldening an aggressor while undermining a nation fighting for its survival. The president is not above accountability, and loyalty to one man must never outweigh loyalty to the Constitution and the American people. Congress has a responsibility to exercise oversight, defend national security, and hold this administration accountable when its actions threaten American interests. I want to know where you stand. Will you stand up for your constituents and the United States of America, or will you continue to bow down to a wannabe fascist dictator? I expect you to demand answers, support meaningful congressional oversight, and use your authority to prevent policies that compromise our national security or abandon our allies. If the president’s decisions conflict with laws Congress has enacted, I expect you to defend those laws rather than remain silent for political convenience. Your oath is to the Constitution, not to Donald Trump. The American people deserve representatives with the courage to put country over party and principle over political loyalty. Silence is not leadership. Blind obedience is not patriotism. I expect you to demonstrate through your actions that you represent the people of this country, not simply the interests of the president. I look forward to your response explaining what specific actions you will take.
