I write to condemn the actions of ICE agents that contributed to the tragic death of Dr. Linda Davis, a dedicated educator killed in a crash involving a driver fleeing an ICE stop. Dr. Davis was on her way to work when a vehicle involved in a federal enforcement operation ran a red light and struck her car, taking the life of a valued member of her community.
Federal enforcement actions must be carried out with the highest regard for public safety. Operations that unfold on busy public roads create dangerous conditions for innocent people who have no connection to immigration enforcement. No teacher commuting to work should lose their life as a consequence of a federal operation.
Dr. Davis’s death demands a thorough and transparent investigation. Federal agencies must carefully examine their procedures, improve coordination with local authorities, and adopt safer enforcement practices that protect the public.
Dr. Linda Davis was a member of her community who deserved to live and continue her work. Her death should serve as a solemn reminder that enforcement policies must never come at the expense of innocent lives.
