As a constituent, mother, psychologist and citizen in Colorado, I am writing to urge you to take immediate and decisive action to address the ongoing crisis of gun violence in our country. Families, schools, and communities like mine are living with the constant fear that another senseless tragedy could happen at any time. How many more children need to die? I believe strongly that protecting the Second Amendment and ensuring public safety are not mutually exclusive. Americans deserve common-sense gun laws that respect responsible gun ownership while keeping dangerous weapons out of the wrong hands. This includes: • Universal background checks for all gun sales, including private and online transactions. • Red flag laws that allow law enforcement or family members to temporarily remove firearms from individuals who pose a danger to themselves or others. • Restrictions on high-capacity magazines and assault-style weapons, which have been repeatedly used in mass shootings. • Investment in community violence prevention programs to address root causes and support safer neighborhoods. The majority of Americans, including many gun owners, support these measures. What we need now is leadership and the political will to act. Every day we delay, more lives are lost—lives that could have been protected with stronger, evidence-based laws. I urge you to put the safety of children, families, and communities first by supporting and advancing legislation that reduces gun violence and creates a safer future for us all.
