sign the freedom to read act

To: Gov. Hochul

From: A constituent in South Setauket, NY

December 9

i’m writing to ask you to sign the freedom to read act into new york state law. protecting intellectual freedom and access to information, especially in the current political climate, is hugely important. book banning is counterproductive and does new york’s young people — particularly marginalized ones who don’t often see themselves in media — a huge disservice. parents can decide what their own children read, but certain people’s beliefs shouldn’t mean a book or books are taken away from everyone. the entire library community, from public librarians to students to teachers to the people public libraries help every single day deserve protection from misguided and often hateful censorship.
