I am writing to vehemently oppose H.R. 8070, the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act, and to strongly urge you to vote against this bill.
I am particularly alarmed by the provisions that authorize the transfer of $1 billion in weapons to the settler colony of israel, including $700 million in tank ammunition, $500 million in tactical vehicles, and $60 million in mortar rounds. Additionally, I am opposed to US armed forces engaging in any military training exercises alongside Israel and to using any of our tax dollars to support or profit from actions that contribute to the ongoing war crimes, genocide, and human rights violations in Gaza.
Sections 1233, 1234, and 1235 of the legislation are especially concerning: • Section 1233 mandates subterranean warfare military exercises with the IOF (“israeli” occupation forces), focusing on locating and demolishing subterranean tunnels. • Section 1234 outlines collaborative PTSD research between U.S. and “israeli” institutions. • Section 1235 details a program for trauma and amputee rehabilitation education and training in collaboration with the “israeli” occupation forces.
These provisions undermine efforts toward a peaceful resolution and violate both international and domestic laws. I do not want my tax dollars to fund activities that are guaranteed to perpetuate oppression and hostility and that have caused suffering for civilians in numerous countries and regions of the world, especially in Palestine. Supporting this bill would not only be a misuse of public funds but also an endorsement of policies that contribute to the destruction and destabilization in Gaza.
I exhort you to take a stand against H.R. 8070 and vote NO on this bill. It is imperative that we redirect our resources towards constructive and peaceful initiatives rather than actions that exacerbate violence and undermine human rights.
I look forward to seeing your appropriate response on this critical issue.
