Oppose H.R. 3518 – We Need Doctors Who Understand the Whole Patient

To: Rep. Carbajal, Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla

From: A verified voter in Lompoc, CA

May 31

H.R. 3518 would block federal funds from medical schools that use diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. That doesn’t just target politics — it takes aim at real education and real people. America is not one-size-fits-all. Health outcomes vary widely based on race, income, and geography. A medical student in Washington DC needs to understand different things than one in rural Kansas or downtown Atlanta. Teaching about those differences is not political; it’s necessary. Removing the ability to train doctors to recognize these factors puts patients at risk. Medical schools should be allowed — and encouraged — to prepare students for the reality of who they’ll be treating. I urge you to oppose H.R. 3518.
