Congress Must Act: Protect Vulnerable Children from Federal Cuts

To: Rep. Scanlon, Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in Wayne, PA

April 9

I urge you to firmly oppose any federal actions that endanger children—especially those with disabilities. Dismantling the Department of Education and shifting special education oversight to HHS (Executive Order, March 2025) is reckless and unacceptable. HHS lacks the expertise to uphold IDEA protections. (The Guardian) Cuts to Medicaid further threaten children with disabilities, risking institutionalization and loss of vital in-home care. (NBC Washington) Additionally, slashing teacher-training grants—approved by the Supreme Court—undermines efforts to equip educators, especially in underserved areas. (Reuters) These decisions harm kids. Do not stand by. I expect you to act now to protect their rights, education, and futures.
