There is a Stop Funders Act that the Heritage Organization is pushing to be passed in Congress. I have major concerns about this Act. Please don’t vote for this act unless there are fundamental protections in it: 1) It should state that the government would have to prove criminal intent and a concrete connection to criminal conduct—not infer criminal intent from a person’s political beliefs, organizational associations, or support for a controversial cause. 2) It should pass the test that you would be comfortable giving it to your political opponents to use against your own side. If it passes that test it is probably a well-designed law. If it doesn’t pass the test stated in item 2 or have the safeguards in item 1, please do not vote for the Stop Funders Act.
