Vote NO on Any Bill That Funds ICE — No Compromises, No Deals
To: Rep. Roy, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn
From: A constituent in Bandera, TX
January 29
I am writing as your constituent to make one demand that must be heard loud and clear: you must vote NO on any appropriations bill, continuing resolution, or legislative package that includes funding for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) — no compromises, no “reforms,” no side deals.
The current fight over the Department of Homeland Security funding bill has brought this issue to a head. A recent House version of the bill included billions of dollars for ICE operations, despite explosive controversy over ICE’s conduct and deployment across U.S. cities.
Let me be perfectly clear: I do not accept “funding with conditions,” “partial restrictions,” or “oversight mechanisms” as substitutes for ending funding altogether. Funding ICE in any form is unacceptable — full stop.
Your vote on this issue will be recorded, public, and irreversible. If there is any funding for ICE in any bill that gets passed with your support or acquiescence, I will not vote for you again, and I will actively support your opponent in the next election. I pledge to hold accountable every member of Congress who enables the continued fiscal life of an agency that has engaged in militarized operations in communities like Minneapolis, where federal immigration enforcement has resulted in multiple deaths and widespread fear.
We are in a moment of national reckoning over immigration enforcement. Too many lives have been harmed, too many communities traumatized, and too much trust shredded by an agency that operates with extraordinary power and minimal accountability. Voting to fund ICE with any level of appropriations is politically and morally indefensible.
This is a simple imperative:
Vote NO on any bill that funds ICE — no exceptions, no negotiations, no funding by any other name.
Your constituents are watching how you vote on this issue. We will remember. We will act accordingly in November.
