Impeach Attorney General Pam Bondi for Weaponizing the Justice Department
To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Self, Sen. Cornyn
From: A constituent in Princeton, TX
February 12
I am writing to urge you to support impeachment proceedings against Attorney General Pam Bondi for her systematic abuse of power and weaponization of the Department of Justice.
During her February 11 oversight hearing before the House Judiciary Committee, Bondi demonstrated conduct unbecoming of the nation's chief law enforcement officer. When Rep. Thomas Massie pressed her on the over-redaction of Jeffrey Epstein files that protect powerful individuals rather than survivors, she called him a "failed politician" with "Trump derangement syndrome." When Rep. Pramila Jayapal asked for an apology to Epstein survivors present in the hearing room, Bondi refused, dismissing legitimate oversight as "theatrics." This contempt for Congress and survivors of sexual abuse is disqualifying.
More troubling is Bondi's transformation of the Justice Department into what Ranking Member Jamie Raskin accurately described as "Trump's instrument of revenge." Since taking office, she has fired career prosecutors and FBI officials who worked on Capitol riot cases or Trump investigations, dropped prosecutions of Trump allies, and launched investigations against his perceived opponents including Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, Sen. Adam Schiff, former FBI Director James Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and former intelligence officials James Clapper and John Brennan. Federal judges have already dismissed cases against Comey and James as baseless, though the DOJ continues appealing.
The Justice Department's independence from partisan politics has been a cornerstone of American democracy for generations. Bondi has shattered that tradition, turning prosecutorial power into a political weapon. When a Washington grand jury recently rejected her attempt to indict Democratic lawmakers for protected speech, it demonstrated how far she has strayed from legitimate law enforcement.
I urge you to initiate impeachment proceedings immediately. The Attorney General's abuse of power, obstruction of congressional oversight, and politicization of federal law enforcement constitute high crimes and misdemeanors that demand accountability.
