I am writing as a concerned citizen who cares deeply about the state of our democracy and the values that once guided it. I urge you to take a moment to reflect:
How politics used to work—where debate, negotiation, and compromise were tools, not obstacles.
The standards we once held for our elected officials, rooted in honesty, integrity, and service to the people.
How members of Congress used to work together to find common ground, even across party lines.
Where are the humans in government today? How did we get to a place where polarization, partisanship, and personal gain overshadow the public good? And perhaps most importantly, how can we get back?
The people you serve are counting on you to do your part. This is not about party or ideology; it is about the health of our democracy, the lives of Americans, and the legacy of this institution. We need leaders who prioritize humanity, accountability, and collaboration.
I challenge you to lead with integrity, to remember why you chose public service, and to act in ways that restore trust, respect, and civility to our government. The time to do this is now.
