An Open Letter
To: Gov. Hochul
From: A verified voter in Jackson Heights, NY
December 6
I am writing as a concerned resident who values our state’s commitment to protecting civil rights. With Trump reentering the White House in January, I am deeply concerned about the federal policies that could threaten members of our community, and your recent comments that suggested a willingness to deport undocumented immigrants.
We need you to stand up for and defend all of our immigrant neighbors. We should not support the Trump administration’s cruel ambitions. I am hopeful that New York lawmakers will approve legislation that would create a right to representation in immigration court, and that you will support it.
Thank you for your dedication to safeguarding our values and for taking steps to protect our community in the face of a second Trump administration.
