I am writing to urge you to take immediate action and join the recently formed Governors Public Health Alliance. This nonpartisan initiative, launched by Governor Hochul of New York along with 14 other governors, is a critical step in safeguarding public health and strengthening our state's preparedness in the face of ongoing challenges. The alliance serves as a coordinating hub for governors and public health leaders, allowing states to share expertise, align policies, and coordinate on crucial issues such as vaccine access, emergency response, and health security. By joining this alliance, Michigan can benefit from the collective knowledge and resources of other states, ensuring that we are at the forefront of public health protection. This initiative is particularly important given recent federal actions that have raised concerns about vaccine access, reproductive rights, and Medicaid funding. The alliance provides a platform for states to work together in addressing these challenges and maintaining strong public health protections for their residents. Governor Hochul's recent extension of Executive Order 52 in New York, which allows pharmacists to continue administering COVID vaccines, demonstrates the kind of proactive measures that alliance members are taking. By joining, Michigan could similarly strengthen its vaccine distribution efforts and explore legislative solutions for permanent vaccine access. The Governors Public Health Alliance is supported by the Governors Action Alliance (GovAct), a nonprofit initiative, and is advised by leading public health experts. This ensures that the alliance's efforts are grounded in scientific expertise and best practices. Participating states have already begun sharing valuable insights and coordinating executive actions to enhance public health protections. Michigan's involvement would not only benefit our state but also contribute to the collective strength of the alliance. I strongly believe that joining this alliance is crucial for Michigan's public health future. It would demonstrate our commitment to evidence-based policies and our readiness to collaborate with other states in addressing complex health challenges. Please take swift action to ensure Michigan becomes a part of this important initiative.
