Mandate AI Safety Regulations and Capability Limits Now

To: Rep. Friedman, Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla

From: A constituent in Los Angeles, CA

October 3

Pass meaningful AI regulation now — before the technology outpaces our ability to govern it. That means mandatory safety evaluations before deployment, hard capability limits on the most powerful systems, and real accountability for companies that cut corners. The window to act is narrow, and every month of delay is a gift to the industry's least responsible players. The stakes are not abstract. Unchecked AI is already displacing workers across manufacturing, creative industries, and white-collar professions, with no safety net in place to catch the people left behind. Corporations are racing to deploy systems they don't fully understand, and right now there is nothing stopping them. We need legislation that puts human welfare ahead of quarterly earnings — with teeth, not voluntary guidelines. I want to see you champion binding federal AI safety standards, not another toothless framework. Workers and families in your district are counting on you to get ahead of this, not react to a crisis after it happens.
