We are writing from Michigan—and from communities nationwide—to demand that every state reject copycat legislation modeled after Florida's HB 1471 / SB 1632.
These bills let the state secretly label organizations as "domestic terrorists" based on vague accusations of "intimidating" the government . Students can be immediately expelled for "promoting" designated groups. Organizations can lose funding without ever being convicted of a crime .
The definition is so broad it could target peaceful protesters, student groups, civil rights organizations, and anyone the government disagrees with .
This is not about public safety. It is about silencing dissent.
We call on every state to:
1 Publicly reject copycat legislation
2 Affirm that peaceful protest is not terrorism
3 Protect the First Amendment rights of every citizen
The right to speak out is not a crime. Don't let Florida's authoritarian playbook spread.
