If Trump Withholds Funding, Our State Should Too – Pass a RECOURSE Act

To: Rep. Sangiolo, Gov. Healey, Sen. Creem

From: A constituent in Newton, MA

April 27

New York State Senator Jessica Ramos has introduced the RECOURSE Act, S6915. This bill lets the state hold back payments from the federal government if a judge finds Trump has illegally frozen funds appropriated to us by Congress or a federal agency. Please do whatever you can to make a measure like this law in our state. We are letting ourselves be bullied and cheated with our own hard-earned dollars, and we cannot and must not tolerate it anymore. Trump wants to force every American to live by his rules instead of our own values, and one of the weapons he is using is funding *we pay* in taxes. We cannot pretend everything is normal and just keep sending him money while he is blackmailing us with it. With a RECOURSE Act, we will be able to use withheld payments to cover for what Trump steals, and keep our programs and services running. We will protect our people, and we will fight for what’s fair. We do not have kings in this country. We are all supposed to play by the same rules. If the President refuses to do that, it is time for the rules to change.
