The recent Israeli attack on the Rafah tent camp that sheltered displaced civilians is an appalling violation of international law and human rights. Reports indicate at least 40 Palestinians, including many women and children, were killed when the camp was deliberately targeted and bombarded. This atrocity comes just days after the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to immediately halt its military offensive in Rafah and cease all operations in Gaza. Israel's disregard for the ICJ ruling and the horrific loss of innocent lives underscore the moral urgency to take concrete action. We urge an immediate cessation of the assault on Rafah and call for the enforcement of binding measures, including sanctions, to compel Israel's compliance with international law and human rights norms. Furthermore, all military aid and arms transfers enabling these war crimes must be suspended until a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire is reached. This unconscionable violence against a vulnerable civilian population sheltering in a designated safe zone cannot be tolerated. Israel must be held accountable for its contempt of the global order and repeated perpetration of war crimes and human rights abuses against the Palestinian people. Strict measures are vital to protect innocent lives, uphold international law, and work towards a just and lasting resolution to this grave humanitarian crisis.
