Demand Congressional Oversight of DOJ Anti-Weaponization Fund

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet, Rep. DeGette

From: A constituent in Denver, CO

May 20

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the Justice Department’s newly announced “Anti-Weaponization Fund,” reportedly valued at approximately $1.776 billion and created as part of the settlement of President Trump’s lawsuit against the IRS. This appears to be an extraordinary misuse of the Judgment Fund: taxpayer money set aside for legitimate legal settlements, not for creating a new politically directed compensation program for the president’s allies, associates, or supporters. I urge you to act immediately to oppose this fund, demand full transparency, and pursue every available oversight mechanism. Congress should require disclosure of the fund’s legal basis, intended recipients, eligibility criteria, administrators, and any communications between the White House, DOJ, and Treasury related to its creation. Taxpayer money must not be used as a slush fund to reward political loyalty, compensate partisan allies, or subsidize claims tied to efforts to overturn the 2020 election. This demands immediate congressional scrutiny.
