Since September 2025, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol agents have opened fire at least 17 times across multiple states, killing at least six people and injuring many others. On January 7, 2026, ICE agent Jonathan Ross shot and killed Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother who stopped to support immigrant neighbors during an enforcement operation in Minneapolis. On January 24, 2026, Border Patrol agents shot and killed Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old Veterans Administration ICU nurse who was documenting the operation and assisting protesters who had been pushed to the ground by federal agents. Federal officials rushed to label Good as a domestic terrorist and claimed Pretti was armed and resisted—claims contradicted by multiple witness videos and independent forensic analysis from credible organizations. This undermines the rule of law, local law enforcement, and the Constitution itself. American citizens have a constitutional right to peaceful protest and to observe and document government actions. When federal agents respond with lethal force to Americans exercising these rights, it represents catastrophic failures in training and a complete disregard for constitutional limits on government power. I am deeply concerned about: * The use of lethal force against Americans engaged in peaceful, constitutionally protected activities who posed no threat * Inadequate training for federal agents and reports they have been told they operate with impunity * The complete absence of accountability following these deaths * Federal officials' complicity in covering up the truth * The chilling effect on Americans' willingness to exercise their First and Second Amendment rights These operations are creating danger, not safety. The escalation of violence contradicts any legitimate law enforcement objective and erodes public trust in federal law enforcement. I call for public hearings to determine the truth. This is about American lives and the survival of our constitutional republic. We have no Constitution if we do not honor its amendments and the rule of law. The current indiscriminate mass operations in American cities must halt immediately. Enforcement should focus exclusively on violent criminals and public safety threats while all other operations are suspended pending comprehensive training reforms, policy reviews, and accountability measures. I urge you to: * Convene immediate public hearings on federal immigration enforcement use of force policies * Halt indiscriminate operations and refocus enforcement on violent criminals only pending reform * Support independent investigations of all federal agent-involved shootings * Ensure accountability for agents who violate constitutional rights I expect meaningful action now.
