As your constituent, I urge you to vote NO on Todd Blanche for Attorney General and reject the backroom compromise used to advance his nomination. A late-night, single-signature memo does not erase Mr. Blanche's fundamental unfitness to lead the Department of Justice, nor does it close the loopholes it claims to. Scrapping one program while leaving a tax-immunity deal in place for the President and his family does not fix the disqualifying failures exposed during confirmation: - The "fix" is legally shaky and undercut by Trump: The settlement creating the $1.8 billion fund explicitly requires written agreement from all parties to modify it. Mr. Blanche signed Sunday's rescission order alone—Trump's side never signed. Meanwhile, President Trump publicly stated he would "push hard" to revive the fund, proving the deal is far from settled. - It codifies a two-tiered justice system: Granting the President and his family immunity from IRS audits is corrupt on its face. Restricting that immunity to named plaintiffs is not a victory for the rule of law—it explicitly places the President above tax laws applying to every other American. - His active attorney-client conflict remains: Mr. Blanche confirmed under oath that his personal attorney-client relationship with Donald Trump remains active. The Attorney General's sole client must be the United States, not a private patron. - He authorized attacks on press freedom: Mr. Blanche issued federal grand jury subpoenas against New York Times journalists after critical reporting, comparing reporters to "car crash witnesses"—an action so egregious a federal judge forced its withdrawal under threat of sanctions. - He mistreated Epstein survivors and hid files: A federal court ruled his DOJ violated the Epstein Files Transparency Act, while survivors described mandatory meetings with him as a hostile, box-checking exercise. - He excused violence against police: Mr. Blanche publicly defended blanket pardons for rioters who assaulted police officers as "very generous," refusing to condemn the inclusion of violent offenders. A one-signature memo, contradicted by the President himself within 24 hours, does not make Todd Blanche an independent law enforcer. The Senate's constitutional duty of Advice and Consent requires rejecting a nominee who treats the Justice Department as a shield for political allies and a weapon against critics.
