I am disgusted and furious over the disgraceful exploitation of the United States military for what appears to be nothing more than a publicity stunt for a UFC event and a tax funded birthday celebration. The Armed Forces Full Honor Cordon is one of the highest ceremonial honors our military can bestow. It exists to honor heads of state, foreign dignitaries, senior officials, and America’s fallen heroes—not cage fighters participating in a bloody sport. Watching UFC fighters parade through this revered military formation was offensive, insulting, and beneath the dignity of the United States Armed Forces. I was equally appalled to learn that the United States Army Herald Trumpets were used to open the event. Our servicemembers are not props. They are not decorations. They are not tools to create dramatic television footage. They are highly trained professionals who have dedicated their lives to serving this nation. What makes this even more disturbing is the message it sends: that military honors earned through sacrifice, courage, and service can be casually repurposed for entertainment and self-promotion. The traditions of our armed forces belong to the American people, not to make “good tv.” Congress must demand answers. Who authorized this misuse of military personnel and ceremonial honors? Were military regulations followed? How much taxpayer money was spent? Most importantly, what safeguards will be put in place to ensure our military is never again used as a backdrop for political spectacle? I expect Congress to defend the integrity of our armed forces. Americans should be able to trust that our military serves the nation—not the public relations needs of any individual.
