With the budget shortfall I am urging you to consider just how expensive it is to criminalize people for "crimes" that don't have victims. Especially those that are just people exercising bodily autonomy. Economic depressions are caused by the slowing of economic exchange, but investing in our poorest residents is shown to boost that exchange much more than any other group. The criminalized activities are often survival activities engaged in by poorer residents. By decriminalizing them you decrease spending while providing economic stimulus to those who need it most, and are most effective at stimulating the economy. Decriminalize sex work and drug use.
