Preserve access to educational resources for an inclusive society

To: Rep. Pierson, Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick, Sen. Hall

From: A constituent in Rockwall, TX

May 15

This proposed book ban legislation claims to protect minors from "sexually explicit" content, but its overly broad definitions risk censoring books that provide vital perspectives on gender, sexuality, and diverse cultures. Rather than fairly evaluating educational value, this law seems designed to target representations of LGBTQ+ identities and marginalized groups under a false guise of shielding children. Such selective censorship promotes harmful biases by removing voices that broaden understanding and acceptance. A truly balanced policy would involve community input on age-appropriate content guidelines rather than pre-emptively removing entire narratives from public discourse.
