I'm asking you to vote yes on Susan's and Emily's Law when it comes before the Senate. This bill has already passed the House with bipartisan support from 28 sponsors, and it addresses a critical safety issue: vehicles parking in or blocking protected bicycle lanes. Right now, Pennsylvania has no specific requirement for how vehicles must park near pedalcycle lanes. Cars routinely encroach into bike lanes, forcing cyclists into traffic and creating dangerous conflicts. This bill fixes that by requiring vehicles to park within 12 inches of the buffer area separating parking from bike lanes. That simple standard keeps cars out of spaces designed to protect people on bikes. The enforcement is straightforward. Basic violations carry a $15 fine, while blocking reserved spaces costs $50 to $200. Municipalities keep their authority to adapt parking rules under Section 6109, and school buses get an exemption during student loading. Pennsylvania has invested in protected bike lane infrastructure across the state. We need parking regulations that actually protect those lanes and the cyclists using them.
