I am writing to express deep concern over the proposed legislation to ban TikTok in the United States. Such an action would not only have far-reaching economic consequences but also risk alienating millions of individuals, particularly young voters and small business owners, who have come to depend on this platform for personal and professional growth. TikTok has become a cornerstone of the digital economy, providing unprecedented opportunities for small businesses, independent creators, and entrepreneurs to thrive. Many small business owners have found TikTok to be an indispensable tool for reaching new customers, driving innovation, and sustaining their operations, especially during a time when economic recovery remains fragile. Banning the platform would devastate these individuals, wiping out countless livelihoods and stifling entrepreneurial growth in communities across the country. Moreover, this decision could have a significant political impact. A large portion of TikTok’s user base, particularly younger generations and left-leaning individuals, view the platform as a critical space for creativity, community, and activism. Its shutdown under a Democratic administration would likely foster resentment and disillusionment, pushing these voters away from the Democratic Party. Such an outcome could have lasting ramifications in upcoming elections and tarnish the party’s reputation as a supporter of progress, innovation, and free expression. I recognize the concerns around national security that have prompted this debate, but I urge you to pursue alternative solutions that do not punish millions of innocent Americans. Enhanced regulatory measures, transparency requirements, or data localization agreements could address security concerns without resorting to a complete ban. Taking this balanced approach would allow the government to safeguard national interests while preserving the economic and creative ecosystems that TikTok supports. Banning TikTok would not only harm small businesses and independent creators but would also undermine the trust of a key demographic that believes in a future led by inclusivity, innovation, and opportunity. I implore you to reconsider this course of action and work toward solutions that reflect the values of fairness and economic freedom that so many Americans cherish. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I urge you to stand with small businesses, creators, and millions of citizens who rely on TikTok and oppose a ban that could inflict severe and lasting damage.
