Congress Must Act: Science, Not Myths, Must Guide Autism Policy

To: Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Scanlon, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in Wayne, PA

April 17

I urge you to take immediate action in response to recent harmful statements by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his appointment of David Geier—an individual with a history of promoting discredited vaccine-autism myths—to lead a federal autism initiative. This undermines public trust, spreads dangerous misinformation, and harms the autism community. Please take the following actions: 1. Launch a formal investigation into Secretary Kennedy’s statements and the qualifications of David Geier through the appropriate oversight committees. 2. Publicly reaffirm Congress’s commitment to science-based autism research and services, including support for the CDC, NIH, and evidence-driven developmental programs. 3. Condemn pseudoscience in public health leadership, and ensure future federal appointees meet basic scientific and ethical standards. Families deserve policies grounded in facts—not fear. Please speak out and lead with integrity.
