I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the deportation of legal immigrants without due process, particularly in the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Despite being granted protected legal status by a court in 2019, Mr. Garcia was wrongfully deported to El Salvador due to an “administrative error” by the Trump administration. This incident highlights a disturbing disregard for constitutional rights and judicial decisions.
I urge you to encourage your Democratic colleagues in the Senate to take immediate action to address this critical issue. The Senate should ensure that all legal immigrants are afforded due process as guaranteed by the Constitution. Ignoring court rulings and constitutional protections is not only illegal but also undermines the legal system.
If such actions go unchallenged, I fear that they will continue and potentially escalate in severity. It is crucial that we establish a strong precedent now to prevent further erosion of constitutional rights and the rule of law. I believe that if we fail to address these violations, they will become more frequent and more egregious in the future, threatening the stability and integrity of our democracy.
I request that you and your colleagues take a firm stance by halting proceedings until this matter is resolved, ensuring that deportations adhere to legal and constitutional standards.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
