Support State Authority to Prosecute Presidential Financial Fraud
To: Sen. Wyden, Sen. Merkley
From: A constituent in Union, OR
August 9
This state law is exactly the kind of accountability measure our legal system needs, and I want you to defend it. No one should be above the law — including a sitting or former president. Allowing citizens to sue for financial fraud and empowering our Attorney General to bring criminal charges closes a real gap in accountability that has gone unaddressed for too long.
The principle here is straightforward: financial fraud is financial fraud, regardless of who commits it. State-level enforcement is a legitimate and necessary check when federal mechanisms fall short or are politically compromised. I expect you to stand firmly behind this law and oppose any effort to weaken, preempt, or repeal it.
