Put Your People First and Defund ICE

To: Gov. Ivey, Sen. Givhan, Rep. Hall

From: A verified voter in Huntsville, AL

January 26

I am writing as one of your constituents to demand you take immediate and definitive action to end the destructive operations of ICE. This agency’s lawless conduct continues to inflict violence and trauma in our communities, including the recent killings in Minneapolis. Specifically, I demand that you: 1. Publicly commit to opposing any appropriations bill that maintains funding for ICE. 2. Support and co-sponsor legislation to claw back the $75 billion ICE fund created by H.R. 1 last year, and redirect those resources toward community-based safety and humane immigration solutions. 3. Personally tour detention facilities in our state to witness the conditions firsthand and report transparently to your constituents. 4. Support legislation that allows investigation into the actions of ICE officers, and punishment if deemed illegal. ICE and it's officers are not above the law. ICE’s violence against immigrants and citizens must end. I expect you to use your position to defund, dismantle, and dissolve this agency.
