A principal critique of China for decades has been its One Party Rule; That the ruling party is the only party choice that isn’t penalized under the administration ruling their country. Increasingly under our United States government under the Trump Administration, the same is true. Even deviation within The Party that Trump has taken over has been punished with online harassment, threats and SWATTING, and primary campaigns to dislodge longtime GOP politicians from their positions serving as civil servants in federal and state offices when the President is displeased with their displays of fealty. Democracy cannot function under One Party Rule. This has been the position of the United States and our Allies since the end of the Second World War. Republicans must either jettison from Trump’s captured GOP machine OR begin to rebuild long established bridges with their Democratic colleagues to save an American Democratic Republic. But our system of government cannot stand with a single party ruling all three branches without competing interests represented. The founded fathers made no accommodation for this kind of unilateral usurpation of power and it is incompatible with American democracy and rule of law. The American GOP must either break with newly emerging GOP autocracy and corruption or be consigned to the historical treatment of all other autocrats in American politics. This is not the way we live up to the ideals established in our founding documents or in our juris prudence. We trend toward expanding rights for all in our communities and borders, The recent moves to pull rights back from those who are as deserving of human dignity, rights, and liberties ordained by our creator are unlikely to survive this period of bigotry, hostility, and small-mindedness that is a backlash as predictable as the response to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. Nonetheless it is as inexcusable now as it was then, when every reasonable person can quote Martin Luther King Jr but can’t account for why they found his ideas radical, upsetting or stripping of their own privileges when they asked for humanity, dignity, and fair treatment for Black and Brown people who built these United States for families striving here today. So today, I demand that we commit to a system that invites NO FEWER THAN TWO PARTIES to participate in the governance of these United States. I’m told that only “communist china” operates under one party rule.
