Keep Funding the Suicide Lifeline for LGBTQIA+ youth

To: Rep. Mullin, Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff

April 21

The Trump administration's proposed defunding of the Lifeline suicide prevention hotline beginning October 2025 threatens critical support services for LGBTQ youth at risk of self-harm. The Trevor Project reports this national hotline received over 200,000 crisis contacts in 2021 from LGBTQ young people considering suicide. Cutting funding would endanger lives and exacerbate challenges facing this vulnerable population with disproportionately high rates of suicide attempts. As a society, we have a moral imperative to safeguard our youth's wellbeing and provide access to potentially life-saving resources. I urge you to oppose this reckless policy that undermines suicide prevention efforts and puts LGBTQ adolescents at greater risk.
