Sign the POWER Act to Hold Data Centers Accountable

To: Rep. Sosnowski, Gov. Pritzker, Sen. Syverson

From: A constituent in Marengo, IL

May 25

Sign the POWER Act. Data centers operating in Illinois are consuming massive amounts of water and electricity with virtually no accountability to the communities bearing those costs. That needs to end, and this legislation is how you end it. The POWER Act sets binding energy efficiency standards, requires water usage disclosure, mandates environmental impact reporting, and ties tax incentives to actual performance. Right now, Illinois taxpayers are handing this industry blank checks with nothing in return. These facilities strain our grid and our water supply while hiding behind zero transparency requirements. The POWER Act fixes that with enforceable consequences for operators who fall short — not just guidelines they can ignore.
