I am writing as your constituent in Elkhart County to respectfully urge you to publicly oppose any effort to redraw Indiana’s legislative or congressional districts during the proposed special session. I have looked for a clear, public statement from you on this issue and have not found one, which is why I believe it’s important to reach out directly before this session moves forward. Although I don’t identify as a Republican, I want to acknowledge something sincerely: your hesitation to immediately endorse this special session reminds me that—before party affiliation—we are all Hoosiers. That shared identity matters. It tells me that you understand how serious and sensitive this process is, and I respect that you have not rushed to embrace it. Our maps were fully redrawn in 2021 following the Census, and updated again in 2023. There is no legal, demographic, or procedural justification for another redraw now. Mid-cycle redistricting risks undermining public trust by creating the appearance of political strategy rather than genuine public service. This concern is amplified by the fact that multiple Republican-led states are pushing similar mid-cycle redraws at the same time. To many independent voters like me, that timing raises red flags. It looks less like “protecting representation” and more like preemptively insulating incumbents from the political consequences of the current climate leading into 2026. I am not asking you to vote like a Democrat. I am asking you to vote like a representative who values integrity, fairness, and the stability of Indiana’s government institutions. Taking a public stance opposing mid-cycle redistricting would show that you prioritize the long-term health of our state over short-term political advantage.
