I’m writing as your constituent to urge you to champion meaningful anti-corruption legislation in the spirit of Rep. Khanna’s Drain the Swamp Act (H.R. 2857), introduced earlier this year.
This bill proposes several essential reforms:
• A permanent ban on lobbyist gifts to White House officials.
• A two-year “cooling-off” period for officials entering or leaving government roles.
• A prohibition on special payouts — commonly known as “golden parachutes.”
• Stronger restrictions on monetizing political influence.
Though currently stalled in committee, these reforms deserve immediate, bipartisan attention.
I respectfully ask that you:
1. Co-sponsor or publicly support H.R. 2857 (Drain the Swamp Act) to help it gain momentum.
2. If that bill is not advancing, lead or support a companion bill in the Senate with similar provisions.
3. Leverage your platform to highlight the urgent need for these ethics measures as part of rebuilding trust in government.
4. Organize or join hearings in relevant committees — such as Oversight or Ethics — to elevate awareness and build political will for reform.
Washington has grown numb to revolving-door ethics lapses and special-access politics. These reforms signal a genuine, structural commitment to integrity and transparency.
Please respond with your position on this legislation and any plans you have to elevate this vital anti-corruption agenda.
Thank you for your leadership and attention to this urgent issue.
