An Open Letter

To: Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Houlahan, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in West Chester, PA

July 7

I’m writing as your constituent to express my strong support for continued federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which supports NPR and PBS. President Trump has recently called on Congress to claw back $1.1 billion in funding for public broadcasting—an outrageous move that would directly undermine independent journalism, educational programming for children, and critical emergency communications that millions of Americans rely on. Americans do not want this. According to Pew Research, nearly twice as many voters support continued funding for PBS and NPR as oppose it. Rural communities especially depend on these trusted sources of news and information. Public broadcasting is a pillar of our democracy. PBS and NPR provide impartial reporting, free educational content, and emergency alerts. Cutting this funding would only serve to weaken the free press and silence voices that don’t serve partisan interests. Please stand up for the public interest and vote to protect federal funding for NPR and PBS. We need independent media now more than ever.
