As your constituent, I am writing to state my position on Department of Homeland Security funding clearly and directly.
ICE should be defunded and abolished entirely.
I understand negotiations are underway for the February 13 deadline. I know there are discussions about structural reforms such as body cameras, warrant requirements, agent identification, and independent oversight.
These reforms are insufficient. ICE has killed eight people in one month—six immigrants who died in custody, and two American citizens killed by agents in Minneapolis. An agency that arrests five-year-olds legally pursuing asylum, tear-gases peaceful protesters, and operates with impunity cannot be reformed through incremental measures.
Recent polling shows 46% of Americans—and nearly 70% of Americans under 30—support abolishing ICE. This is not a radical position. It reflects what we have witnessed: an agency operating outside constitutional bounds with deadly consequences.
When the DHS funding bill returns to Congress by February 13, I expect you to vote NO.
Defund ICE.
