I am deeply troubled by the allegations of sexual misconduct against Matt Gaetz, including potential involvement with a 17-year-old girl. While he was never charged by federal prosecutors after a multi-year investigation, the mere fact that such serious claims were extensively scrutinized is highly concerning for someone nominated to be the nation's top law enforcement officer. The integrity and ethical standards of the Attorney General must be beyond reproach. Even if Gaetz was not criminally charged, the cloud of these investigations alone should disqualify him from such a powerful position overseeing the Justice Department. His nomination signals a disturbing disregard for the grave nature of the accusations leveled against him. I urge you to oppose his nomination and demand a candidate of unimpeachable moral character and commitment to equal justice under the law. The Attorney General must represent the best values and principles of our nation, not reinforce a culture of impunity toward potential sexual exploitation. Please put country over party and reject this deeply flawed nomination.
