The Republican continuing resolution fails to lower costs, harks our environment and makes America less safe. It enables Musk to direct contracts to his companies like Starlink and SpaceX. SpaceX employees have burrowed into the FAA with no requirement for public transparency, fair competition or Congressional approval while mission critic jobs have been cut. It also enables Musk and Trump to fire thousands of employees at the SSA which will result in closures of offices, increased wait times and unacceptable backlogs. The proposed cuts can start to affect people’s ability to get payments in months. With a full year continuing resolution the guardrails are off. Musk and Trump will have more leeway to shutoff and repurpose funding as they see fit. The bill cuts subsidies for low income and working Americans by more than 700 million. It also cuts 40 million in election security grant funding which means elections will be less fair and secure. Funding levels within the EPA are not specified and the administration can eliminate what it sees fit. 30 million was cut from the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service. The CR would give the administration broad discretion to eliminate programs from the CDC and NOAA. These are just some of the examples out of many of programs that were not specified and would become under the discretion of Musk. Please vote no on the CR.
